We went to ride the trains last week but did you know they have special signals to help direct the trains?
31 May 17:35 10 Game : Train Signals

Explain how train signals work:

Every railway line is divided up into sections called blocks where only one train at a time is allowed to be.  Signalling has kit attached to tracks to determine whether or not a train is in a section – this kit includes track circuits which send a small electrical current between the tracks and trains, and axle counters which count the wheels going in and out of a section.  Trackside signals control entry into and out of each block and also warn trains when the line ahead might be occupied and if they must reduce speed.  The earliest signals were a form of semaphore (arm up or down to tell the trains to stop or go).  Now, signals are exactly like robots with red, green and yellow lights.

Someone is the signalman who will tell the trains if they can stop or go.  Can use the soccer ball - only the train that has been signalled can have the ball and the ball keeps passing to different Cubs based on who the signalman decides.  Alternatively, can work like red light green light game and Cubs have to try and pass the signal before it changes (arm up = stop, arm down = go)

The Conductor on the train is in charge and we need to do what they say.
31 May 18:35 10 Game : Queen of Heart says

One Cub is the Queen (or King) of Hearts.

The other Cubs give instructions that the other Cubs must follow.  E.g. Do a cartwheel, jump 3 times.  The Cub must start instruction with "Queen of Hearts says..." .  If they don't, the Cubs must not follow the instruction.  Those that do is identified by the Queen by saying "Off with his/her head"

Winner gets to be Queen for next round.

Alternative:  queen can simply give instructions and if they shout "off with their heads", everyone has to run and the Cub that is on tries to catch someone who is then "on"

We have a runaway train on our tracks trying to catch the other train. Change the switches on the railroads to stop the train catching up
31 May 18:45 10 Game : Cat and Mouse

Ask for two volunteers to play the cat and the mouse.

The other players should form a circle and hold hands.

The player who is the mouse should stand inside the circle and the cat should stand outside the circle.

The aim of the game is for the mouse to get outside the circle and avoid being caught by the cat.

The mouse must stay moving while inside the circle but cannot stay inside the circle for more than 10 seconds.

The cat cannot come into the circle but they can reach into the circle to grab the mouse.

The circle players have to try and keep the cat away from the mouse by holding up their hands to let the mouse in and out of the circle.

They can also block the cat's attempts to grab the mouse by standing in their way.

If the mouse is caught, the mouse becomes the new cat.

The old cat takes the place of a player holding hands and another player becomes the mouse.
