- Start by making a small introduction of the activity. Share a brief overview of the importance of whales in the marine ecosystem as well as major threats to their survival. (You can find lots of facts about whales by clicking the links below:

- Let’s make our whale origami. Follow the instructions in this video: https://youtu.be/5-HypV5T5jM?si=k3v5xaxLkhZXfEX-
- After completing the origami task, ask the participants some questions about whales:
- What is the largest species of whale? (Blue whale)
- What is echolocation? (Is a technique used by whales and other animals to determine the location of objects using reflected sound. This allows the animals to move around in pitch darkness, so they can navigate, hunt, identify friends and enemies, and avoid obstacles.)
- How long can a sperm whale hold its breath underwater? (Up to 2 hours, but the average is around 45 minutes)
- What do whales eat? (Depends of the species – baleen whales eat krill and small fish, while toothed whales eat squid and fish)
- What are the biggest threats that whales face? (Marine litter and pollution, climate change, ship strikes and commercial whaling)
- How do whales communicate with each other? (Whales use sounds like clicks, whistles, and songs to communicate).
