Ask two Cubs to stand in front of the others.

- Ask all the Cubs to look for what is different about the two Cubs that can be seen (visible diversity)

- Ask all the Cubs to mention what might be different about the two Cubs that can't be seen (invisible diversity)

- Ask all the Cubs to mention what is the same about the two Cubs that can be seen (this is often more difficult, especially if the chosen Cubs are different races, genders.  An obvious similarity is that they are both in uniform.  This is only visible when they are actually wearing their Cub uniform)

- Ask all the Cubs to mention what is the same about the two Cubs that can't be seen.

(The SA Constitution prohibits discrimination on any one or more of the following grounds:  race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language and birth.  This gives some indication of the types of diversity aspects that you would be listening for the Cubs to mention.  You can prompt where necessary).

Debrief:  So, what is diversity?  It is the mixture of sameness and difference of each of us.  We are not one thing - I am female, a mother, White and speak English - I am not just one thing and in the same way we all have things that are the same and things that are different between us.

It is easier to see the differences but we need to look for what is the same as well.
