Jars

Modge podge/ white glue

Crepe paper

Scissors

Tea light candles

 

Cut the crepe paper into squares or other shapes

Use the modge podge or white glue to stick the crepe paper to the jar

Allow to dry

Place a candle inside jar and light

Place gel crystals in water so they can absorb and expand

Give examples of waterwise plants and how you know if a plant is waterwise (see attached poster). 

Each child to take a eggbox, add soil and a crystal or two to the soil

Plant your chosen plant/cuttings

04 Sep 11:30 10 Game : Cat and Mouse  

Ask for two volunteers to play the cat and the mouse.

The other players should form a circle and hold hands.

The player who is the mouse should stand inside the circle and the cat should stand outside the circle.

The aim of the game is for the mouse to get outside the circle and avoid being caught by the cat.

The mouse must stay moving while inside the circle but cannot stay inside the circle for more than 10 seconds.

The cat cannot come into the circle but they can reach into the circle to grab the mouse.

The circle players have to try and keep the cat away from the mouse by holding up their hands to let the mouse in and out of the circle.

They can also block the cat's attempts to grab the mouse by standing in their way.

If the mouse is caught, the mouse becomes the new cat.

The old cat takes the place of a player holding hands and another player becomes the mouse.

Equipment Required: Paper and pencils
How to Play:

  • Everybody sits in a circle, and has a piece of paper and a pencil.
  • Players fold their paper into four, so that the folds run widthways.
  • On the top panel they draw an animals head - a bird, a lion, a crocodile, etc.
  • Make the two lines of the neck just over onto the second panel.
  • Players fold over their handiwork so that it cannot be seen, and pass to the person on their left.
  • Players then draw the top part of an animals' body, and again pass on the piece of paper.
  • The legs of the body and then the feet are also added in this way. Then pass on the completed animal to the player on the left.
  • Players open out the 'mystery animal' and decide where they think it lives (has it got webbed feet? A tail suitable for helping to climb trees?). What it eats (has it a slender beak or a long tongue for drinking nectar? Sharp teeth for meat eating?). What it might get eaten by? (Try linking all the creations in an imaginary food web!). Give each animal a suitable name.
